Hold the Space for Others

When people we care for need support or need to feel safe, we are given an opportunity to hold the space for them. What does "hold the space" mean? It means listening and offering a peaceful place in which the person can talk, cry, or simply sit in silence. Holding the space is not always easy. You have to be calm, strong in your caring for that person, and allow that person the freedom to do what he or she needs to do. You create a healing field in which they can sit or wander until they are ready to move on. When we hold the space for others, we honor them, and we become our best selves.
